A Bit About Me
I’m Erik Richard, a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with a Master’s degree in Biomechanics. My passion lies in helping individuals and teams achieve their goals through evidence-based coaching and personalized training programs.

At Richard Performance, I specialize in creating tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of each client, whether they’re looking to build strength, refine technique, or optimize performance. From online coaching and in-person sessions to team training programs, my goal is to empower you to move confidently, perform at your best, and thrive both in and out of the gym.

With a rich personal history in sports, I bring first-hand experience and a deep understanding of athletic performance. I’ve wrestled at a national level, competed in football and rugby at both high school and university levels, and participated in competitive sailing.
As a coach, I’ve worked with athletes across a wide range of sports, including curling, football, soccer, track and field, hockey, volleyball, rugby, snowboard cross, freestyle skiing, swimming, tennis, sailing, and more. I’ve also trained individuals for long-distance competitive running, including half and full marathons, as well as those pursuing strength in powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting. This breadth of experience enables me to adapt my coaching strategies to meet the unique demands of any sport or athlete.

I believe in a coaching philosophy rooted in education, progression, and individualization. By understanding the "why" behind every aspect of your training, you’ll not only see results but gain the confidence and tools to excel in the long term. Let’s work together to unlock your full potential.

Outside of my coaching endeavors, I serve as an Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and exploring hobbies beyond the gym.

East Coast Barbell

Saint Mary's University
2018-2021
Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic
2017-2019
I founded East Coast Barbell in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, with a vision to create more than just a gym—I wanted to build a welcoming, inclusive community where individuals of all backgrounds and fitness levels could come together. Starting from scratch, I designed and developed a top-tier facility that combined evidence-based training with a supportive and empowering environment.
During my tenure as the Head Strength Coach at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, I was privileged to work with a diverse array of athletes and teams, overseeing the design, implementation, and management of high-performance training programs. My role extended beyond the weight room, as we built a culture of excellence, accountability, and inclusivity within the community.
During my time at the Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic (CSIA), I worked with some of the region’s most talented athletes and coaches, delivering high-performance training programs designed to optimize athletic development. My role required a combination of technical expertise, adaptability, and collaboration as I contributed to the preparation of athletes across various sports for national and international competition.
